Roney Engineering Limited is a specialized structural engineering firm which employs an experienced team of structural engineers, restoration specialists, engineering technologists and support staff. Our specialization in the field of structural assessments, analysis and design of buildings, and our long history in practice, has permitted us to develop a high level of proficiency in this complicated, technical and ever-changing field. Our efficient design team is commonly called upon by other engineering firms to address complicated design situations or to re-design structures in order to reduce their overall cost and to streamline construction. Municipalities and government agencies frequently seek our guidance with respect to structural engineering matters and building code issues.
One particular advantage that sets our firm apart from others, is our experience and expertise in the modification, addition and upgrading of existing building structures. Our firm traces its roots back to 1926 and our engineering library is filled with design manuals, product catalogues, material properties, codes and standards dating back to the 1800's. This is information not available on the internet. This allows us to identify the engineering properties and design methodoligies used in older structures that permits us to accurately assess them and utilize their strengths and compensate for their weaknessess to an extent that most other structural engineering firms could not. This results in much more accurate, economical and efficient structural renovations to existing facilities.
The expertise of our team is widely recognized as our engineers serve on technical and building code panels and committees. Our principal recently served as an expert at the Elliot Lake Inquiry, on the government's Building Safety Technical Advisory Panel, as chair of the Ontario Building Code 2012 Part 4 (structural) technical advisory panel and as a member of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing's Building Advisory Council, providing strategic and policy advice to the government on matters related to buildings and the building code. Our principal engineer is currently President of Engineers Canada, the national body that regulates Canada's 287,000 licensed professional engineers.
